About the Work
On a Rainy Afternoon is a lithographic print created in 1967 by German artist Paul Wunderlich. The image portrays a nude woman sitting on an ornate sofa and bathed in natural light. Her arms are positioned behind her, her torso is contorted forward, and her head leans back. This pose suggests that the woman is stretching, perhaps using a rainy day to indulge and rejuvenate. This portrayal of the nude female figure, both realistic and disproportionate, is a recurring theme throughout Wunderlich's extensive body of work.
The lithograph features muted shades of green and gold on wove paper, with slight bleeding effects at the edges of the plate. It was likely printed in 1966 by the renowned French printmaking studio Atelier Edmond et Jacques Dejobert.
