The Beautiful Sisters is a lithographic print created in 1966 by the German artist Paul Wunderlich. It portrays two women with their heads turned toward each other, mirroring each other's posture while differing in attire and hair color. Each woman has one breast exposed and is dressed in a style reminiscent of the maiden figures from European mythology, a frequent source of inspiration for Wunderlich. The artwork features rich color fields, reflecting the artist's fascination with Art Deco modernism. These elements and motifs are prominent hallmarks of Wunderlich's body of work. However, this piece is distinctive for its nearly full-bleed printing, in which the vibrant colors extend close to the beveled edges of the lithograph's wove paper.
This lithograph was likely printed in 1966 by the renowned French printmaking studio Atelier Edmond et Jacques Dejobert.
