About the Work

Personae is the title piece of Ernest Trova's eight-work collection, Personae/Etc. The artist produced these works in St. Louis between May and October of 1995, showcasing Trova's late-career experimentation with abstract expressionism. They were inspired by an alternate persona that Trova, a shy man, referred to as "Junior Person," the part of him that exhibited more eccentric behavior. The collection was hand-printed at Studio Heinrici in New York City in late 1995 and was published the following year by Lococo Fine Art, based in St. Louis.
