About the Work
Ortus was created as part of Ernest Trova's eight-piece collection called Personae/Etc. The artist drew these works in St. Louis between May and October of 1995, showcasing his late-career experimentation with abstract expressionism. The pieces were inspired by an alternate persona that Trova, a shy man, would later refer to as "Junior Person," representing the more eccentric side of himself. The collection was hand-printed at Studio Heinrici in New York City in late 1995 and was published the following year by Lococo Fine Art, which is based in St. Louis.
