About the Work
Joana chez Karin is a lithograph created in 1968 by the German-French artist Paul Wunderlich. The work features the artist's wife, German photographer Karin Szekessy, whose nude photographs inspired many of Wunderlich's figurative prints in the late 1960s. These prints typically portray a seated woman styled in the surrealist manner for which Wunderlich is most known. In this piece, the nude figure is depicted in a steely blue color, with skeletal limbs, reclining on a navy chaise that seamlessly merges with her hair.
This lithograph was likely printed by the renowned French printmaking studio Atelier Edmond et Jacques Dejobert.
